Matlide Poulat
Whenever I think of handmade jewelry, I see an image of Matilde Poulat, one of the first women designers of jewelry in Mexico, forging silver. Her work in color, methods, and motifs adds up to an original and personal style. I can just imagine the conviction she had, the commitment to her art, and her eye for beauty. Often in my own jewelry designs, I incorporate a vintage Mexican piece, whether it be a sterling question mark or show a modern necklace accentuated by a handcrafted, sterling chain or charm.I have been lucky to meet the craftsmen and women I have in Mexico, to be able to learn from them, and to be rewarded by working with them.
